Gi jiu-jitsu
Traditional jiu-jitsu in the kimono. Grips, collars, sweeps and submissions — the slower, more technical half of the art, where patience usually beats strength.
Tue & Thu 6:30pm · Thu 6:00am
Sunshine North · Melbourne
Brazilian jiu-jitsu and grappling for adults and kids. Gi, no-gi, and a room where beginners are the point — not an inconvenience.
Never trained?
Nearly everyone who walks through our door has never grappled before. You will not be thrown in the deep end, and nobody is going to try to beat you up on your first day.
Turn up, borrow a gi, get on the mats. No sign-up, no card, no obligation to come back.
You'll be paired with someone who'll look after you, and told exactly what to do and when to stop.
Small room, on purpose. Nobody spends an hour on the mats without being corrected at least once.
What we run
Everything is taught from the ground up each term, so there's no wrong week to start.
Traditional jiu-jitsu in the kimono. Grips, collars, sweeps and submissions — the slower, more technical half of the art, where patience usually beats strength.
Tue & Thu 6:30pm · Thu 6:00am
Shorts and a rashie, no collars to hold. Faster scrambles, wrestling, body locks and leg entanglements. Closest thing to what you'll see in competition and MMA.
Mon & Wed 6:30pm · Tue 12:00pm
Gi jiu-jitsu for 8 to 15 year olds. Real technique, taught properly — plus the part parents actually care about: knowing how to handle themselves without needing to prove it.

The gym
Bui spent nine years coaching before opening this gym. First Page Grappling is what he wanted a jiu-jitsu room to feel like.
Somewhere the person three weeks in gets the same attention as the person ten years in. Somewhere you're allowed to be bad at something in front of other people while you learn to be good at it. Somewhere the black belts are the friendliest people on the mat, because that's the standard, not an accident.
Everyone in this room started on page one. Some are just further into the book.
If you've trained before, you'll find good rounds and people who'll push you. If you've never trained, you'll find the door is a lot lower than it looks.

Before you come
Yes. Message or call first so we know to expect you, then come ten minutes early. We'll lend you a gi, walk you through what happens, and put you with someone who knows what they're doing. Your first class is free.
For a gi class, we'll lend you a gi — just bring a t-shirt to go underneath, or a rashie. For no-gi, shorts without pockets or zips, and a rash guard or fitted t-shirt. Bare feet on the mats, thongs or shoes off the mats.
Jiu-jitsu is a contact sport, so you'll finish sessions sore in places you didn't know about. But it's trained cooperatively — you tap, your partner lets go, you go again. Beginners are paired carefully and told exactly where the limits are. Nobody is cranking anything on your first day.
No. That's like tidying up before the cleaner arrives. Come as you are and let the training do it — the mats build a very specific kind of fitness you can't really get anywhere else.
Our kids' program runs 8 to 15. Kids train Monday and Wednesday at 4:30pm in the gi. Parents are welcome to stay and watch — most do.
The gi is the traditional uniform — you grip the collars and sleeves, which slows everything down and rewards precision. No-gi is shorts and a rash guard, nothing to hold onto, so it's faster and more scrambly. Most people end up doing both. You don't have to choose.
Your first class is free. Message us and tell us which one you're coming to.
